10-Year Old Asks For A Sister For Christmas And Gets Her Twin

ABC News

10-year old identical twins Audrey Doering and Gracie Rainsberry were raised hundreds of miles apart, but both knew there was a missing piece to their life. After being separated at birth in China, both girls were adopted by American families.

Audrey, raised in Wisconsin, asked her parents for a sister for Christmas this year. She never anticipated how that Christmas wish would come to be.

Audrey’s mom became curious about her daughter’s heritage and enlisted the help of a Chinese researcher. The researcher discovered a photo of Audrey on the lap of her Chinese foster mom who is also holding another baby that looked identical to Audrey.

“As soon as I had that picture, I was desperate to find out … who that other child was,” Doering said.

Doering’s research eventually revealed that Audrey had a twin who had had also been adopted by an American family.

“Oh, it was unbelievable. I’m like, ‘How?’ I mean, this is stuff you read about,” Doering said. “And how, how could it really be that there are two of them?”

With the help of Facebook, Doering was able to find Nicole Rainsberry, Gracie’s mother.

In an emotional reunion, the twins met for the first time since their adoptions. The reunion happened live on Good Morning America this morning (January 11) and brought the entire audience (us included) to tears.

Shortly after the reunion, GMA host Michael Strahan sat down with Gracie, Audrey and their families.

“It’s very overwhelming,” Gracie said of meeting her twin.

“It felt like there was somebody missing. Now, it’s complete,” Audrey said.

The girls discovered that they have a lot in common included the same food likes and dislikes. They also both suffered heart conditions. Gracie underwent two heart surgeries after arriving in the United States and Audrey underwent one.

Jennifer Doering, Audrey’s mother, told ABC News that it’s “the craziest thing in the whole wide world to look at your child exactly. I mean, everything was the same. The same hair, the same glasses, the same outfits,” Doering added.
