Country fans and people across the country are interested in Dolly Parton's story, as made evident by the highly successful TV movie based on her childhood called Coat of Many Colors. Now, Parton is making plans to continue telling her life story, but on the stage rather than the screen.
That's right, Parton is in the process of planning a Broadway musical based on her life. Rumors about such a musical have been circling for years, but it seems as though it's finally happening this time. Parton announced the news herself on March 7, the same day she announced her plans to embark on her first major tour in over 25 years.
As to be expected, all of the songs in the new musical are written by Parton herself, and many of them will be the hits we've all come to know and love throughout the years. But as Parton revealed, there will be some new music as well.
"I just got the final scripts," Parton said during a press conference. "I'm telling my life story as a musical, which I've written all the music for. A lot of the hits will be in it, but I've written a lot of new music as well."
This won't be Parton's first time writing songs for a Broadway musical. She wrote the music and lyrics for the Broadway musical called 9 to 5: The Musical, which was based off of the 1980 film Parton starred in of the same title.
Knowing how successful Coat of Many Colors was, and how many people love Parton, we're sure her new musical will be a big hit!
