When Reba McEntire fell in love with Narvel Blackstock, she also fell in love with his family. Although Reba and Narvel have since divorced, she still holds a special place in her heart for his parents, Narvel Leroy and Gloria.

Years ago, Reba spoke about one of her favorite Christmas traditions, which was inspired by Gloria. Before the family sat down to open their gifts, they would sing “Happy Birthday” to baby Jesus. Reba also treasured her relationship with Narvel Leroy,  who passed away in 2005.

The time was a difficult one for Reba and her family, since Narvel Leroy was such an important figure in their lives. He passed away the age of 79, after retiring from his work as an engraver and painter for 42 years. Him and Gloria were married in 1942, and had Narvel and a daughter named Patricia.

On what would have been Narvel Leroy’s 90th birthday this year, Reba shared a sweet photo of him and Gloria in his memory.

Happy birthday to the best father-in-law a person could ever ask for. Narvel Leroy Blackstock I miss you very much,” Reba wrote.

Reba’s father-in-law seems like a loving family man, and we’re sure she misses him terribly.

In 2014, Reba mourned the loss of her own father, Clark McEntire, and ended up recording a song called “Just Like Them Horses,” which she dedicated to him. You can watch the song’s emotional music video below.
