Over the course of American Idol's final season, one contestant has stood out from the rest. 22-year-old La'Porsha Renae has captivated the country from the moment of her first audition, and she's now gone on to be one of the final four contestants on the show.
La'Porsha has become known for her soulful, bluesy performances, so it came as quite a surprise to the judges and the crowd when she took to the stage to perform a classic rock song by Bon Jovi, "Wanted Dead or Alive."
"Wanted Dead or Alive" was written by the band's lead singer Jon Bon Jovi, as a means of paying tribute to the Western outlaws he admires. He always was able to indentify with the outlaws as well, since he feels that the rockstar lifestyle he lives is similar to theirs.
With such a "country" message and lyrics such as "I'm a cowboy, on a steel horse I ride," the song was one of the last anyone expected La'Porsha to sing. But she managed to take it and make it her own, and embodied the killer energy of the lyrics through her powerful voice.
At the end of the song, the looks on the judges' faces proved how stunned they were by La'Porsha's performance.
"I love when you guys take a song that we wouldn't normally think you'd do," judge Keith Urban noted enthusiastically.
Jennifer Lopez echoed Keith's sentiments, praising La'Porsha further by saying, "Your voice is so undeniable you could sing the phonebook and it wouldn't matter."
We have to agree! Tune in below to watch La'Porsha's unforgettable performance of "Wanted Dead Or Alive."
What do you think? Is La'Porsha our next American Idol?
