In 2004, a film was released that touched many around the world, called The Passion of the Christ. The film mainly focuses on the last few hours in the life of Jesus Christ, but also features flashbacks to his childhood with his mother, Mary.
Following The Passion‘s release, director Mel Gibson served as executive producer on an album called The Passion of the Christ: Songs, which featured songs from artists who had been inspired by the film. Every genre was represented on the album, including country, with two big-name country stars contributing.
Brad Paisley and Sara Evans recorded a touching duet for the album called “New Again,” which highlights the relationship between Jesus and Mary. Paisley and Evans take turns singing as Jesus and Mary, respectively, as Jesus reassures his mother that everything will be alright.
“Mother, do not cry for me,” he sings. “All of this is exactly how it’s supposed to be.“
Still, Mary cannot come to terms with what is happening to her son, as she sings, “So many miracles and lives you’ve changed/And this world repays you how?/With all this pain.“
For the most part, the song is quiet and soft, but there is so much power in the words that Paisley and Evans sing. You can listen to their beautiful duet in the video below.
After listening to this, we’d love to hear Paisley and Evans record another song together in the future, and we’re sure you’ll feel the same.
