In January, Julianne Hough showed off her best 50’s hairstyle when she starred as Sandy in FOX‘s production of Grease Live! At the end of the show, Hough’s character ditched her smooth, sweet hairstyle for a curly do with a lot of volume.
Perhaps feeling inspired by her character’s transformation, Hough recently decided to change up her hair. She first teased her new hairstyle on Instagram, sharing a picture of herself in rollers.
“You have no idea what’s about to happen,” she wrote. “I’ve been asking for years to do this but have never been able to until now!“
Having a good feeling that Hough wasn’t simply getting her hair curled, we started to realize exactly what she was hinting at.
In a video she shared as her “after” shot, our suspicions were confirmed when Hough revealed that she had just finished getting a perm.
Now we know what you’re thinking…are perms really a thing again? Well, yes, but they’re nothing like Reba McEntire‘s perm of the 80’s.
In fact, Hough’s new perm isn’t curly like you would traditionally imagine a perm to be. Instead, the perm Hough got created beachy waves in her shoulder-length blond hair, the perfect style for the upcoming summer season.
“Bye bye straight hair, hello sexy beach waves!” Hough wrote on her “after” shot.
Hough’s hair has gone through several transformations over the years. Back when she filmed the music video for her debut country single “That Song in My Head,” her hair was so long, it flowed down her back. You can check out the video below!
What do you think of Hough’s new “do?” Would you get a perm like hers?
