Dolly Parton was the star of the red carpet at Sunday night's ACM Awards. The legend strutted her stuff in a beautiful wedding-like dress as reporters clamoured for a few brief seconds to speak with the star.
In addition to Dolly's much-anticipated performance with pop star Katy Perry, the talk of the pre-show interviews revolved around Dolly's upcoming wedding. Yes...she is getting married again! The "Jolene" singer and her husband of 50 years are celebrating their golden anniversary with the wedding they never had.
When Dolly married Carl Dean in 1966, she had just signed with a record label. At the urging of the head of the label, the couple put off the big wedding they had dreamed of. Dolly's mom made her a simple, but beautiful dress and she tied the knot with Dean in front of the preacher, his wife, Dolly's mom, and a witness.
While the day was special for the couple, Dolly had one regret. "I missed having a wedding dress and all that," Parton says.
During one of Dolly's pre-ACM interviews Sunday night, she talked about the dress she wore to the ACMs and the custom wedding dress that she is having made for her second wedding.
"We're kind of practicing for my wedding," Dolly said of the dress she wore to the awards show. "I'm getting married again. My husband and I have been married 50 years in May so we're gonna do it all over again. But, my wedding dress will be different than this. It will be flowing and all."
"I didn't get to have that wedding I wanted to back when we married. I always wanted to have the veil and the wedding dress. It will be pretty traditional."
