Original American Idol judge Simon Cowell, who judged the show for nine seasons, knows the value of good timing. He put that skill to use during Idol's final show on Thursday night.
Cowell, who had previously said he wouldn't be able to attend the reunion, surprised everyone by joining his former sidekicks Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul on stage. Paula and Randy first joined Ryan Seacrest on stage where they presented the long-time host with a giant neon American Idol sign. Seacrest then asked Abdul what she would remember most about her time on the show. She responded, "Probably hitting Simon." Seacrest admitted that "He did drive us all a little crazy."
Seacrest then started to tell the audience that Simon couldn't make the finale. At that moment, Simon walked onto the stage and shocked everyone in attendance, including his former co-judges.
"Thank you America for inviting us into your homes, thank you to the contestants and to Fox for actually putting us on air," he said, then referring to Randy and Paula as "his best friends."
"I’m feeling quite emotional now," Cowell admitted. After several rounds of hugs and compliments to the judges who replaced the original panel, the show moved on and we had the honor of witnessing Trent Harmon crowned as the 15th and final American Idol.
