With his huge country debut under his belt, Twitty released “Hello Darlin'” in 1970 and it spent four weeks at the top of the country charts. Although Twitty had A LOT of #1 hits, this one is probably his most recognizable.
It was his fourth single that hit No. 1 and was named the No. 1 song of 1970.
“Hello Darlin'” soon became his concert opener, and when Loretta Lynn was performing with him, he would often sing it directly to her.
When he was recording the song, for some reason, he couldn’t make the opening lyrics work. His producer, Owen Bradley, suggested speaking the lines “Hello darlin’, nice to see you”. It has since made the song instantly recognizable.
