The final winner of American Idol opens up about his new record.
Mississippi native and power-ballad performer, Trent Harmon, revealed the details on his first album coming from his success on 'Idol'. Since winning the competition, his life has been a hectic tornado filled with opportunities and, admittedly, he's taken some time to reflect - even if it was just five minutes!
“As soon as the show was over, I took five minutes and just stood in the restroom of the dressing room that I’d been in, and I thought about it,” he says. “I just stood there and thought, ‘It was worth it. It was worth getting up early; it was worth staying up late.’ So many times in music, it’s not always worth it. But Thursday night, it paid off.”
The rising superstar didn't stop there, he also took a moment to think about what kind of music he wanted to pursue. He describes his particular style as "country soul", but can't quite define what that means.
"Soul music is in right now and it's cool to sing," Harmon began. "It's what comes out of me naturally. If I'm singing gospel music, or I'm singing country music, or I'm singing pop music, I sing it soulfully."
Even his mentor from the show agrees, saying "You don't necessarily have to make a traditional country album, but if you could go down that vein, you could have a career."
"[Soulful is] just how it comes out," the singing champ continued. "So I feel like that's going to come through on this country album."
He's definitely gotten a huge boost from the country music community and his covers of great country songs don't hurt one bit!
