One of country music and southern rock's favorite artists, Kid Rock, has recently made a statement canceling his scheduled appearance as the recipient of a coveted music award.
The 45-year-old singer made the difficult decision following a tragically fatal incident involving his assistant and close friend on Monday morning.
Kid Rock's assistant, Michael Sacha, was found dead by the superstar early Monday morning on the embankment closest to his Nashville property's driveway after what was determined to be a terrible accident riding an ATV back up toward the house.
Following the accident, Kid Rock revealed that he was canceling his immediate plans in order to ensure Sacha's family was treated with the utmost respect and that appropriate arrangements were made.
Now, as the Detroit Free Press reports, he has revealed that he will be unable to attend an event on Friday April 29th where he was scheduled to receive an award.
The Detroit Music Awards ceremony will be marking its 25th anniversary and had planned on honoring the singer with the Distinguished Achievement Award.
Instead of accepting the award on Friday, Kid Rock has chosen to postpone his acceptance until the 2017 annual ceremony.
The Detroit Music Awards Foundation gave a statement acknowledging that, given the circumstances, "this is not the right time for a celebration" and that they "look forward to presenting the award some time in the future when it can be a positive, celebratory experience."
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Kid Rock and the family and friends of Michael Sacha during this incredibly difficult time.
