Scotty McCreery was given a book about Elvis Presley when he was five or six years old, and from that moment on he was interested in music. He started learning how to play guitar around nine or ten, and excelled in his school’s music program. McCreery was an active member of all three of his school’s choral groups, and sang tenor as a freshman but switched to bass as a sophomore.
That deep voice and Southern charm led McCreery to the American Idol championship title in 2011. In the years since, McCreery has been able to live his dream come true, and recently wrote about his eventful life in his new autobiography Go Big or Go Home: The Journey Toward the Dream.
