While growing up on her family farm in Checotah, Oklahoma, Carrie Underwood developed her musical skills by singing at church and other local events. One local helped her get noticed in Nashville, where she auditioned for Capitol Records when she was 14. She almost had a contract prepared, but the company canceled it when there was a switch in management.
Underwood went on to finish high school and attend college, when she decided to audition for American Idol. She became the show's fourth winner, and is now one of the most successful female artists in country music. Underwood is currently entertaining massive crowds on her Storyteller Tour and was named the Female Vocalist of the Year at the ACCA Awards.
