3. His First #1…Almost Didn’t Make It To The Top

Originally recorded by Keith Whitley in 1985, Randy Travis released “On the Other Hand” as the lead single from Storms of Life, but it didn’t break into the Top 40. 

After seeing the success of his song “1982” when it hit No. 6 on Billboard’s U.S. Hot Country Singles chart, they decided to re-release “On the Other Hand” to radio in 1986.

Catapulting off the success of “1982”, his re-released track shot straight to the top of the charts and served as a great start to his career!
