Long ago, Willie Robertson announced he is publicly endorsing Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump for office. whereas Robertson's father, Phil, and brothers, Alan, Jase, and Jep all endorsed Texas Senator Ted Cruz.
Yesterday (May 3), Trump got one step closer to securing the Republican nomination when Senator Cruz announced he is dropping out of the race, leaving Trump and Ohio Governor John Kasich.
Multiple media outlets have now reported that Kasich is also dropping out of the race, according to his senior campaign advisor.
"I'm smiling a little more at the dinner table with the family," he told Gannet Louisiana.
On May 1, Robertson predicted the race to the nomination was "about over," and he was right.
Cruz and Kasich struck a deal to band together against Trump and a few days later, Cruz named Carly Fiorina as his running mate, and Robertson thought it was their version of a "Hail Mary".
Robertson's reason for sticking with Trump since the beginning is that he is not a politician.
"Our system is broken...I think a lot of the politicians are just more of the same," he said. "I want someone in there who can shake it up...I like a man who puts his money where his mouth is and isn't in debt to anyone...I think [Trump's] the man for the job."
Robertson also thinks Trump's business background will serve our country well.
"He's run a business and I think, you know, so many of these people come in. They've never run a business. They don't know what they're doing when they get there, and I just like somebody who's run a business, especially New York City. I think that's an advantage. I think you couldn't be that successful in New York City without having to be able to work with different kinds of people, and I think he's done that and I think he will actually work with other people," he said.
