In 2002, Randy Travis released one of the most emotional singles of his career.

Called “Three Wooden Crosses,” the song became Travis’ 16th number one hit when it claimed the top spot on the Billboard country chart. The song also crossed over to the Billboard Hot 100, where it peaked at the 31st spot.

The song tells the story of a farmer, teacher, preacher, and a hooker who are all involved in a terrible accident when their bus collides with an 18-wheeler. While the farmer, teacher, and preacher pass away as a result of the accident, the hooker lives, and goes on to have a son.

Before he passed away, the preacher gave the hooker his Bible, and she read it to her son, who grew up and became a preacher himself.

With such an emotional story, it’s no wonder “Three Wooden Crosses” is considered one of Travis’ greatest songs of all time.

In 2013, the country community was shocked to learn Travis was in critical condition in a Dallas hospital after suffering from a viral respiratory infection. Three days later, Travis suffered a massive stroke, and had to have brain surgery to relieve some of the pressure.

After hearing about Travis’ condition, the youngest daughter of another major country star decided to pay tribute to him with a touching cover of “Three Wooden Crosses.” Only 16 at the time, Allie Colleen Brooks, Garth Brooks‘ daughter, sang Travis’ emotional song in front of a large crowd at the Herron Crown Opry Theater in Oklahoma.

Through her cover, Allie proved talent certainly runs in her family. Her voice has a sweet, soft quality to it, the perfect fit for an iconic country tune such as “Three Wooden Crosses.” Besides that, the control she has over her voice and the emotion she puts into each word is astounding.

You can check out Allie’s gorgeous tribute performance to Travis in the video below. We think it’s safe to say we’ll be hearing plenty more from her in the future.
