It’s been five years since Scotty McCreery took home his trophy as the winner of American Idol, Season Ten, and in that time a lot of things have changed for the 22-year-old country singer.

The grand prize from his singing competition garnered him a record deal with Mercury Records’ Nashville division and he released three albums during his tenure, but in recent months news has surfaced that McCreery has severed ties with Mercury and gone a different direction.

The news came at a time when his future wasn’t exactly spelled out for his fans, as he had just debuted his first single in 2015, “Southern Belle”, and there was no album association listed for it.

In an exclusive interview with MusicRow, the young singer opens up about the split and how it actually came about…

“We’re definitely in between [labels],” He tells the publication. “We put out a few records and all of them went to No. 1 on their respective chart.”

The label thing was definitely more of a surprise.”

He continues on, saying that the breakup was a purely business decision and reiterated by stating “it was nothing personal there”

But, fans are still left wondering where he’s headed from here. Of that, the singer says, “I’m looking at a couple of different options…and figuring out a few things contractually” but reveals that he has some great music ready and in the pipe for another album.
