Tegan Marie celebrated her birthday in a big way this year...by releasing a cover of a CMA Song of the Year.
Leading up to the 50th CMA Awards on November 2, the CMA has tapped modern country singers and rising stars to cover past Song of the Year winners. Just two days after her 13th birthday, Tegan got the chance to put her own spin on Faith Hill's romantic single "This Kiss."
"This Kiss" won the CMA Award for Song of the Year in 1999...four years before Tegan was born. In her 13 years of life, Tegan has prepared herself to one day take home the same award as Hill. She's been playing guitar since she was six, has been writing songs since she was eight, and has been an internet sensation and national performer for years.
You may have seen Tegan's covers before, including her mega-viral rendition of Florida Georgia Line's "H.O.L.Y." So when it came time for the CMA to pick someone to cover Hill's "This Kiss," Tegan made perfect sense. By picking a young prodigy with so much potential in the business, the past and present beautifully collide in this cover.
If you had no idea how old Tegan was, you would never guess she was only 13 by hearing her cover. Her voice contains a wealth of power and confidence, something that seasoned artists sometimes struggle to find.
Plus, Tegan excels in pouring emotion into her performances, and this cover of "This Kiss" is no exception. The dazzling way in which she works with this song gives it an airy, dreamlike quality, one that will make you feel like falling in love.
Once you watch Tegan's cover of "This Kiss" below, you are guaranteed to fall head over heels for her undeniable talent. Her star is already glowing so bright, and we can't wait to see what else the future has in store for her!
