Country Music’s Loudest Night, also known as the CMT Music Awards, aired tonight and it was an event worth watching! Along with an impressive lineup of solo artists like Keith Urban, Chris Stapleton, Luke Bryan and Carrie Underwood, the show featured several much-anticipated collaborations.
One of the most talked about events came from Blake Shelton and the Oak Ridge Boys who performed "Doing It To Country Songs" from Shelton's new album, If I'm Honest. The pairing was the result of a text sent to the Oak Ridge Boys' Joe Bonsall from Blake Shelton who asked what he would have to do to get the Oaks to sing on his new album. Without hesitation, the Oaks told Blake to name the time and place and they would be there. The live performance of the tune has had Music City talking ever since it was announced.
An excited Joe Bonsall spoke with Country Rebel just before the group's dress rehearsal with Blake Shelton at Bridgestone Arena this afternoon. As you can imagine, the Oaks are thrilled to be making their first awards show performance in years. The fact that they shared the stage with long-time friend and colleague Blake Shelton made the event even more special.
"I've been friends with Blake for years. He respects the Oak Ridge Boys as much as we respect him. At the heart of Blake Shelton is that he just wants to be a country singer," Bonsall said. "We feel so honored that Blake asked us to be a part of a young people's award show. It's going to be epic."
And epic it was! Not only did the men perform "Doing It To Country Songs," they threw in a verse of the Oaks' hit song "Elvira." The crowd rose to their feet and sang along, a tribute to the influence the Oak Ridge Boys have had on country music.
The performance is just the beginning of an exciting week for the Oak Ridge Boys. They will be participating in a number of CMA Fest activities throughout the rest of the week, making them the only country artists to have attended every CMA Fest since the event's inception in 1973.
