Beloved Dolly Parton Song Inspires New Children’s Picture Book | Country Music Videos

Dolly Parton‘s life is a true Cinderella story. After growing up in poverty in rural Tennessee, she used her talents as a singer and songwriter to become one of the world’s biggest superstars.

Although Parton is now a global phenomenon, she’s never lost sight of where she came from. Because of this, Parton always makes an effort to give back to others, especially children.

In 1995, Parton established the Dolly Parton Imagination Library in her home county in east Tennessee, with an important mission in mind:

“To foster a love of reading among her county’s preschool children and their families by providing them with the gift of a specially selected book each month…moreover, she could insure that every child would have books, regardless of their family’s income.”

Since then, Parton’s Imagination Library has expanded to over 1,600 communities, which provide over 750,000 children with new books each month. Since children’s literacy is a cause Parton holds close to her heart, she decided now was the time to not just provide them with books, but to publish one herself.

On Thursday (June 9), it was announced that Parton will release a new children’s picture book based on her beloved song “Coat of Many Colors”. The book, set for release in October, will tell the story of Parton’s childhood and will help teach children about the consequences of bullying. Parton said in a statement that teachers often write to her about the song, saying they use it in their classes to teach children to be kind to others.

“It has always made me feel honored that my little song has been used in this way,” Parton said.

Parton is also providing a new, downloadable song to accompany the book and further its message, called “Making Fun Ain’t Funny.” The news about Parton’s book comes following the immense success of the television film based on “Coat of Many Colors,” which was released last December. Since the film was such a hit, a Christmas-themed sequel is planned for release at the end of this year.

We love how Parton is using her music to touch the lives of others! You can watch her perform her iconic song in the video below.
