On the set of LIFE Today, Randy Travis captured the audience with his moving performance of the Christian classic, “Amazing Grace“.
Amazing Grace was originally published in 1779 by English poet and clergyman John Newton. From then on, it continued to be an extremely popular song in religious and gospel settings throughout American and English culture. John Newton wrote the song based on his life and personal experiences. It has been called his “Spiritual Autobiography” since it is believed to have been written based on his rebellious lifestyle gone wrong, which eventually led him to find God.
Starting in 1999, Randy Travis shifted from mainstream country to gospel. He recorded three gospel albums between 2000 and 2003. From the album Rise and Shine came the single “Three Wooden Crosses”, which won the CMA song of the year in 2003.
Randy’s rendition of the song is nothing less than spectacular. His captivating voice, and calming demeanor bring even more emotion to this classic song.
Watch Randy’s passionate performance and you won’t be let down!
T’was grace that taught my heart to fear
And grace my fears relieved
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed.
Through many dangerous toils, and snares
I have already come
T’is grace that brought me safe thus far
And grace will lead me home.
When we’ve been there ten thousand years
Bright shining as the sun
We’ve known less days to sing God’s grace
Than when we first begun…
