Dwight Yoakam has returned! The performer, whose unique twang has earned the title 'retro-billy', is set to perform the Grammys this Sunday, February 8th (alongside double-nominee Brandy Clark).
In addition, April 14 is the official release date for his new album Second Hand Heart, under Reprise Records. The label is also responsible for the release of Dwight's first record, Guitars, Cadillacs, Etc., Etc., which debuted almost 30 years ago.
Below is a preview of Dwight's spirited first single, also titled "Second Hand Heart".
"Second Hand", the song, is the tale of a girl who is reluctant to get involved with someone because she has been scorned in the past. The song was originally meant for a 2012 album, but ended up becoming the overall concept, and title, for this latest record. "It's its own statement, and it led this collection of songs in a way", Dwight told Rolling Stone in a recent interview. The girl in the song however, is fiction.
"I remember [being] in my house, singing it out loud and I thought, 'Who is this and why did she say that?'. . . and staring off into space and thinking, 'Who's the poor guy who's obviously smitten with the idea of the two of them?'"
Remember to tune into the Grammys this Sunday to see Dwight's sure to be stellar performance!
