“Rhinestone Cowboy” was a mega-hit for Campbell. It was so popular that it actually crossed over into the pop audiences. It was originally written and recorded by Larry Weiss in 1974 and released on his Black and Blue Suite album. Unfortunately, it didn’t do so well. At least, not until Campbell got a hold of it. He released it in 1975 and it rocketed to #1 all around the world. In the U.S. though, it peaked at #1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Singles chart, U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart, and U.S. Billboard Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks chart.
Dolly’s rendition is so much fun and definitely worth a watch. She’s absolutely adorable, sporting a salmon-colored suit embedded with rhinestones.
