“Travelin’ Soldier” was released on the Dixie Chick’s Home album in 2002. Though they’re not the original performers of this emotional and heartbreaking tune, their rendition rocketed to the #1 spot on the US Hot Country Songs (Billboard) chart. This bittersweet tune tells the tale of a shy and lonely soldier that befriends a young girl during the Vietnam War. They send letters to each other while he’s away, their love for one another quickly growing. At the end of the song, the soldier has died and no one really knows him or cares, except the young girl that he loved.
“I was pretty awestruck that she decided to actually go through with it ‘cause she’s really never done anything like that before. And for her to follow through, I thought she’d back out at the last minute and not do it.
The funniest thing to me about it was, she got up there and she sang and she didn’t show a bit of nerves, she just sang the song and then she didn’t acknowledge the crowd or anything. She just sang her song, go up and walked off. Like, that’s the way to do it. That’s the way to handle it.”
Check out Audrey! She’s definitely someone to be watched closely because if she decides to get into the music industry like her parents, she’ll steal the spotlight with that voice!

Audrey’s performance is absolutely breathtaking. She’s definitely got some raw talent and her parents are no doubt proud of her. Her dad, Tim, was actually a little surprised that she actually went through with it:
