Martina McBride spins a tale of regret with her song “Cheap Whiskey” that details the losses and aftermath of choosing the cheap solace of alcohol over real love.
The song was originally released as a single on Martina McBride’s debut album The Time Has Come back in 1992 along with two other singles, the title track “The Time Has Come” and “That’s Me” all of which charted on the Billboard Country charts.
“Cheap Whiskey”, written by Emory Gordy, Jr. and Jim Rushing, tells the tale of a man who realized too late that his problems with the bottle had to stop. As he sits in his chair and looks at a picture of the woman he lost, he’s haunted by the smell of cheap whiskey and the sound of her goodbye.
