The 2003 Country Music Awards were one for the books. After the passing of the legendary Johnny Cash, the CMAs decided to pay tribute to the man who left a huge mark on the country music industry.
The performance was outstanding, as various artists joined the stage performing a medley of Johnny's greatest hits. Willie Nelson began the performance with one of Johnny's greatest hits, "Walk The Line", and mid-song the band blended the song into "Ring Of Fire" as Hank Williams Jr. walked on stage. By this point, the crowd was going wild, but the surprises kept on coming. The stage was joined by Sheryl Crow, Kris Kristofferson and Travis Tritt, as they covered more of Johnny's famous songs.
Sadly, on September 21 2003, Johnny passed away at the age of 71. Johnny had planned on attending the CMAs, because he was being nominated for four awards, including Vocal Event of the Year, Album of the Year, Single of the Year, and Music Video of the Year. Johnny's legacy will forever live on, as he was an inspiration to every life he touched.
