Alan Jackson and his family are mourning the loss of his mother-in-law, Nell Brown Jackson, who passed away April 3. She was 94 years old.
Nell, whose daughter is Alan Jackson’s wife Denise, was the youngest of 13 children. Born December 6, 1920, she, along with husband William Daniel Jackson, were incredibly active in the Unity Baptist Church all their lives. Nell was a singer and often a featured soloist at funerals, weddings, and church congregations.
A beautiful section of her obituary reads, “Nell’s life was a simple love story for her God, her family, her church and her friends.”
Below is the full obituary (Times-Herald):
Quietly on the morning of April 3, 2015, Nell Brown Jackson peacefully met her Savior to spend her first Easter in heaven. The glorious voices of the heavenly choir will be made all the more sweet by her lilting soprano voice.
Nell Brown Jackson was born December 6, 1920 in Madras, GA; the youngest of 13 children born to the marriage of Charles Herbert and Dora Lula Atchison Brown. In addition to her parents and her twelve siblings, she was predeceased by her husband William Daniel Jackson, whom she had married August 14, 1937. Another great loss was that of her son Ronald Jackson.
Nell, during her career, worked at The Newnan Cotton Mills, as did so many of her contemporaries, but she soon found out that her calling was as a caregiver for little ones. She was a part of the Day Care Programs at First Baptist Church and Unity Church for many years. She and her husband Dan were charter members of Unity Baptist Church.
Nell was a faithful member of The Dorcus Sunday school class and a senior Bible study group. The trips with the senior group of her church were very special experiences. She was a member of The Eastern Star. Music was a great interest in her life. She was a part of “The Melody Trio” composed of Velma Gosdin, Ila Brown and Nell. Saturday night would often find her at the gospel singings held at Melear’s Restaurant in the years 1950-1960. Her talents were lent to many churches, weddings and funerals as a featured soloist.
Nell’s life was a simple love story for her God, her family, her church and her friends. She was happiest when she was with her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her children: Jane J. Johnson and husband Roger, Denise J. Jackson and husband Alan and Danny Jackson of Tequesta, FL. Her grandchildren are Kevin (Kim) Jackson, Allen (Kelly) Loftin, Greg (Rholanda) Johnson, Andy (Kate) Loftin, Ken (Crystal) Johnson, Mattie Jackson, Ali Jackson, Dani Jackson. There are 12 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a sister-in-law Louise Brown and a brother-in-law Colonel Joe M. Jackson (Ret.USAF).
No specific cause of death was reported. Nell is however survived by three children and eight grandchildren, including Alan and Denise Jackson’s daughters, Mattie, Ali and Dani, along with 12 great-grandchildren.
