A Look at Vince Gill & Friends Recording Patsy Cline’s ‘Faded Love’

Faded Love‘ is one of the last collaborations Vince Gill‘s Nashville-based swing group the Time Jumpers had with their vocalist Dawn Sears. The singer passed away from cancer in December 2014.

However, the group was able to get together six months prior, with fellow swingers Asleep at the Wheel, to perform the Bob Wills classic ‘Faded Love‘. The collaboration is to be featured on Asleep at the Wheel‘s third Bob Wills tribute album, Still the King: Celebrating theMusic of Bob Wills and His Texas Playboys.

Bob Wills is considered the Father of Western Swing. Inspired by an old fiddle tune, he wrote ‘Faded Love‘ with his father and brother, and it proved to be a huge hit for him in 1950, but an even bigger hit in 1963 for legend Patsy Cline.

We recorded it in Vince’s studio in Nashville and […] everybody needed multiple takes to get their part right,” explains AATW frontman Ray Benson to Rolling Stone. “Except Dawn, who went in and threw down a perfect first take that had pretty much every hair on the back of every neck standing up […] There was no point in having her do a second take. She was just an amazing, amazing singer who should have been a lot more famous than she was.”
