George Jones is most defiantly a pioneer of country music and one of the best country music artists of all time. He achieved a great deal of success in his lifetime and never failed to entertain his fans. Jones' first achievement came in 1959 when George Jones picked up his first #1 country single in Billboard magazine as a recording artist with "White Lightning".
The rare video below showcases a young Jones performing the classic song, "White Lighting". Surrounded by hay bails and makeshift bottles of moonshine, George impresses the crowd with his charismatic charm and fun spirit. As stated above, the song was George's first number one hit and has remained a fan favorite. "White Lighting" was released from the album White Lightning and Other Favorites and kicked off George's accomplished career.
The Possum was the first to record the song written by rockabilly artist J.P. Richardson, but many country artists have covered the song since that day in 1958. The second video below is of a lucky 7 year-old boy who had the opportunity to join George on stage for a 2011 concert in Nashville. This little country superstar in the making joined George in singing "Louisiana Saturday Night" and "White Lightning". Enjoy both of these amazing performances!
