During an interview with Taste of Country, Reba McEntire opened up about her newest album and a certain song that means something special to her. It’s called “Just Like Them Horses” and she performed it at her father’s funeral.
When asked what the one song on her newest album, Love Somebody, that blew her away, Reba said, “‘Just Like Them Horses‘ because it reminded me of daddy and I wanted to record it and play it at daddy’s funeral.” Reba further stated that Liz Hengber, a cowriter of the ballad, “had written it for a friend who was dying of cancer.”
If you love me then don’t be afraid / To look in my eyes and open up the gate / Then watch me ride beneath a newborn sun / Just like them horses / When it’s time to run
Unfortunately, not long after Reba recorded the song, her father passed away. Clark McEntire passed away October 23, 2014 without ever hearing the tune. The interviewer asked if Reba would ever be able to perform it and she said, “I hope so someday.”
Well, that hope became a reality because she ended up performing the song at the funeral, which was probably a very emotionally moving performance to behold.
