High School Quarterback Keeps Fourth Grade Promise Alive To Friend With Down Syndrome (WATCH)

High School Quarterback Keeps Fourth Grade Promise Alive To Friend With Down Syndrome (WATCH) | Country Music Videos

When a high school student Ben Moser asked his longtime friend Mary Lapkowicz to prom it started an online frenzy. This is because in the fourth grade, Ben told Mary that when they were old enough he would take her to prom. Fast forward almost eight years and Ben fulfilled his elementary school promise.

Mary has Down syndrome, but that never made a difference to Ben. According to Mary’s brother, Tom Lapokwicz:

“A lot of grade-school aged kids may have stayed away from my sister Mary or thought she was weird because she has Downs [sic] Syndrome. But not Ben.”

Ben and Mary ended up at two different Pennsylvania high schools, and were reconnected again at a high school football game.  Both didn’t forget that fourth grade promise, and Ben proved just that when he decided to surprise Mary with a prom proposal. So sweet!

Ben and Mary were surrounded that day by friends, family, and their fourth grade teacher who joined in pictures and also said a few kind words of Ben.

“Ben was always the energetic kid in the class who always looked out for Mary and wanted to make sure she was included in all activities,” she said.

Ben hasn’t fed into the media attention surrounding him, but says his only wish from all the publicity is for Mary to meet her favorite musician, Nick Jonas. Anything is possible!
