Wedding days can be emotional for many different reasons. For Luke, this was a milestone he was thankful to have his mother attend. She was battling ALS at the time, and unable to leave her wheelchair for the mother and son dance.
According to the ALS Association, ALS or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, “is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord”. Basically, the muscles don’t receive the nourishment they need to stay strong, and eventually the disease takes over the entire body.
This obstacle didn’t keep Luke from making sure that he and his mom had the special dance. While in her wheelchair, Luke took her on the dance floor. To the sound of Mariah Carey’s “Hero”, Luke got on his knees to dance with his mom. He spun her around, and made sure she was comfortable. There wasn’t a dry eye in the reception hall!
Luke’s mom passed away after the wedding. But there is no doubt he is thankful to have had such a special moment with one of the most important women in his life.
