"The Fireman" was released in 1985 as the 3rd single from George's album, Does Fort Worth Ever Cross Your Mind. As always, the song was a huge success, peaking at #5 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart. Amazing!
The song tells the story of a ladies man who is known for his ability to "cool 'em down when they're smold'ring hot". He goes by the nickname "the fireman" due to his ability to charm any woman. In teh story, the fireman talks about last night, when his friend walked out and left his lady at home very angry. Within the hour, the fireman heads over and calms the woman the only way he knows how. He says, "I'm the fireman, that's my name" and it's true!
