Recently, a police officer had to do the unthinkable. Officer Eric Ellison of the Orange Police Department in Texas, had to tell five children their parents did not survive a car crash.
Riley and Emily Portie were riding their motorcycle when they were hit by a drunk driver and died on the scene. The couple's youngest son, Kazzie, was the only person home when Officer Ellison arrived to break the news. Set to graduate high school the following week, he was now unsure if he was going to walk across the stage to get his diploma due to this devastating news.
Officer Ellison told Kazzie, "You are going to walk. Your mom and dad will have front-row seats looking down from heaven, and I'll stand in their place. I got your back." Ellison had a soft spot for Kazzie, as his daughter was graduating high school the same weekend.
When Kazzie accepted his diploma, Ellison was waiting for him at the end of the stage.
Ellison said, "I had to be the bearer of bad news for him, and I felt that it was just the right thing to do."
"Seeing Officer Ellison there to congratulate me meant the world to me, " Kazze said. "It was so nice to see that he actually showed a genuine care for me and my family's situation instead of us all being another 'case.'" Kazzie and his siblings have been receiving never-ending love and support from the community since their parents' death.
Ellison posted on Facebook that moments like this one are what life is all about.
When Kazzie's name was called, the entire auditorium cheered and gave him a standing ovation. Watch the video below that will give you chills!
