Blake Shelton: a household name, a singer of hit country songs, television personality, pageant kid, country music's funny man and probably one of the wittiest men out there.
The Ada, Oklahoma native was born June 18, 1976. He enjoyed singing from an early age and by 12, he already had the guitar down thanks to direction from his uncle. By 16, he had already written his first song and became an award-winner. He moved to Nashville straight out of high school to pursue his career in music. Blake worked at a music publishing company and in 1997 he signed his first contract.
Blake finally made it big in 2001 when he signed with Giant Records and released his first single, which was the ever-popular "Austin", which spent 5 weeks at number one. Fun fact: Blake was going to release "I Wanna Talk About Me" as his debut single, but the record label didn't believe it was good enough as the lead single, so Toby Keith recorded it instead. From there he went on to release hit after hit, never slowing down, including "Ol' Red" which Blake considers his signature song.
Another interesting fact is that Blake was actually asked to join the Grand Ole Opry via Twitter (and the first one at that). His reply was classic Blake.
“@opry: blakeshelton, you're invited to join the Grand Ole Opry. See you on 10/23/2010!” Hmmm... Let me think... OK!!!!!!!!— Blake Shelton (@blakeshelton) September 29, 2010
In 2011, Blake became a coach on The Voice, which further proved that he had one fantastic personality that was easy to fall in love with. Blake has coached a total of four winners, more than any of the other jduges. The man, without a doubt, knows how to spot talent and nurture gifts.
Blake is, of course, married to the love of his life, Miranda Lambert. They met in 2005 and dated for four years, until he proposed to her in 2010, after receiving permission from her father (adorable, yes). They married May 14, 2011. Would you believe it if we told you that their engagement gifts were matching His and Hers shotguns and flasks? Of course, you would. It's signature Blake and Miranda, and just plain awesome!
Like every one, Mr. Shelton is no stranger to heartache. Sadly, he lost his older brother in 1990 in a car accident and then his father passed away in 2012. Miranda Lambert's emotional and heart wrenching song "Over You" was written with Blake's brother, Richie, in mind. The hit song went on to win several awards in 2013.
Blake has brought so much to the country music genre - touching love songs like "God Gave Me You", fun tunes like "Hillbilly Bone", ones to drink to like "Neon Light" or even fantastic covers of "Footloose" and Conway Twitty's "Goodbye Time". His talent, sense of humor and shining personality make him the whole package that his fans just can't get enough of.
There is truly never a dull moment with this man. Just watch The Voice or attend one of his concerts, or even just follow him on Twitter, and y'all will for sure be entertained.
All we can say is thank God for Blake Shelton!
