Years before they took to the Volunteer Jam stage with Stevie Ray Vaughan, Skynyrd performed their cover of “Call Me the Breeze” with iconic country group, The Charlie Daniels Band. The show took place in January 1979, and was remarkable because it was the first time Skynyrd had reunited since the plane crash.
Daniels was on stage with Skynyrd during the performance, but he didn’t take on the role of lead vocalist. Instead, that was the responsibility of Charlie Daniels Band keyboardist Taz DiGregorio.
The collaboration resulted in one of the most unique and epic versions of “Call Me the Breeze” that we’ve ever heard.
