You can't have an Evening Of Country Greats without including Loretta Lynn, that's for sure. Throwback to 1994 when Loretta was honored in a beautiful way, with heartwarming words from Johnny Cash, Tanya Tucker and Crystal Gayle. Top that off with a phenomenal performance by Tanya and it was definitely a night to remember for the Queen of Country Music herself.
"You know, I grew up singing Loretta Lynn songs," Tanya says after she took the stage. "She was my idol then, and she's my idol now. Loretta was writing lyrics that were on the cutting edge long before it was fashionable. Loretta always said it like it was." As they honored Loretta, they played clips from old performances that made her laugh and blush at the sight, as well as list of all her accomplishes, which are many.
Country music's legendary outlaw, Johnny Cash, also expresses his admiration for Loretta and how she deserved to be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. "She's the ultimate woman. She had to get the Country Music Hall of Fame award because there's nobody anymore solid and pure - real country and real country person as Loretta Lynn," Johnny says. Loretta's younger sister, Crystal Gayle also had some lovely things to say about her superstar sister.
Tanya Tucker performed "You Ain't Woman Enough" wonderfully. Obviously no one could ever perform this song like Loretta, but Tanya's rendition was high-energy and a lot of fun. Loretta obviously enjoyed it because she had a smile plastered across her face the entire time.
