Brantley Gilbert Sings About His Shattered Heart In “You Promised”

First and foremost, grab a box of tissues, because you’ll be needing them. Although Brantley Gilbert is known for his tough guy, bad boy image, he can sing a song a song that is anything but.

He can sing something that’ll make you fall in love, or, like the song “You Promised,” he can sing something that’ll make you want to fall to you knees and try to grab hold of your loved ones and never let them go.

A song full of regrets, “You Promised” was never released on any of Brantley’s albums. It tells the story of a man that left behind his wife even though she was screaming for him to stay. Full of longing, he returns to her, asking for her forgiveness and to take him back.

He sings, “Can hear her screamin’ now / No baby don’t, you making my heart hurt / Don’t say those words / Take it back / You know you don’t mean that / You swore when I wore your ring / It meant forever / I’ve got it on baby / How can you say I lost it / Oh, you promised.”

Brantley’s low, slow, and gritty voice really makes this song the phenomenon that it is. He paints such a vivid picture of the heart-wrenching scene. It’s almost as if you’re there, experiencing the woman’s tears and sadness as her love leaves her behind.

Y’all just have to listen to see what we mean. You won’t be sorry.
