We all knew that Steve Martin is an incredibly talented actor and comedian, but who knew he was a jaw-dropping banjo player!? We’re blown away, and we’re sure y’all are about to be too.
Steve’s been playing the banjo since he was a teenager, but only playing for the public here and there throughout his acting career. In the 1970’s Steve would use his banjo as a prop during his standup skits, and sometimes show off his skills on Saturday Night Live.
But over the past few years, Steve has been making his crossover from comedian to bluegrass player, and it’s been awesome! In 2009 he released his first all music album, called, The Crow: New Songs for the 5-String Banjo.
Since then, he’s won five Grammy Awards, three International Bluegrass Music trophies, and is now about to be given the ultimate honor!
In October 2015, the International Bluegrass Music Association will be honoring Steve with the Distinguished Achievement Award. The award is given to those who have made a significant contribution to the bluegrass world, and Steve definitely has!
He even shared his excitement via Twitter!
