Reba McEntire took to social media to mourn the loss of IndyCar driver Justin Wilson, who died on Monday after being struck in the head with debris while racing in the Verizon IndyCar Series race at Pocono Raceway on Sunday. Wilson is the first driver since Dan Wheldon in 2011 to die in a major U.S.-based auto racing series.
After being struck by debris on Sunday from the car of rookie driver Sage Karam, Wilson's car lost control and hit the inner wall before coming to a stop. The drivers were on lap 179 of a 200 lap race. Since drivers heads are exposed, IndyCar drivers are more susceptible to head injuries than drivers of Nascar.
While the event is a tragedy, Wilson's brother Stefan came forward to share with everyone that Justin saved six lives as an organ donor. Justin is survived by a wife, Julia, and two daughters. Reba has a son who is a Nascar driver and this event must have hit a little too close to home for comfort.
Below is the video of the actual event with commentary.
