Further proof that Hank loves him some Skynyrd, the country icon paid tribute to the group yet again in his collaboration with outlaw country stars Travis Tritt and Waylon Jennings. Called “Outlaws Like Us,” the song appeared on Travis’ 1994 album Ten Feet Tall and Bulletproof

Travis served as the sole songwriter behind the song, which pays homage to a wide range of music legends. Charley Pride, Merle Haggard, and George Jones are just a handful of the artists who earned a mention in the song.

Skynyrd’s shout-out comes a little later in “Outlaws Like Us.” Hank is the one who had the honor of singing that portion of the song, which he did proudly:

“I love to jam with the Skynyrd band. Cause ‘Free Bird’ chills my bones. And I’ve talked trash with Johnny Cash, and I’ve sung with George Jones.”
