In 2003, Duck Dynasty's Jase and Missy Robertson received the news that they were pregnant with their third baby... a little girl!
Unfortunately, the couple's worst fears was realized when they learned their little girl suffered from a birth defect. At 31-weeks, the couple found out that their baby had a cleft lip and a potential cleft palate. On their daughter's website, Missy said, "We were able to prepare ourselves and our boys, as best as we knew how, for a few weeks before she was born at 37 weeks gestation."
On September 12, 2003, Mia Elaine Robertson entered the world with a cleft lip and palate. At just 3 months old, baby Mia had her first corrective surgery and at 7 months she had plate correctional surgery.
Throughout her lifetime, Mia 'the trooper' (a nickname given to her by her parents) has gone through more than most of us can ever imagine, yet she always keeps a smile on her face.
She really is a trooper!
To tell her story, Missy wrote and recorded a song about her little girl, called "Angel Child". The song even features background vocals by none other than Mia herself!
According to Missy's website, "The song is dedicated to kids with special challenges and all proceeds will go to help kids. I am aware there is a lot of suffering in the world and we want to help bring some smiles along the way. Thanks for the support!"
So sweet! Mia, you really are an angel child!
