Although George Jones and Tammy Wynette divorced in 1975, the two classic country artists still collaborated on projects in the decades to come. One such occasion was during the CMA Awards in 1995, when Jones and Wynette came together to perform "They're Playing Our Song."
"They're Playing Our Song" was released in 1995 on the album One, which was Jones and Wynette's first album together in 15 years. It was also Wynette's last album, since she died three years later in 1998.
While performing the song at the CMA Awards, Wynette walks out on stage first and starts singing as the crowd cheers. She then bows to Jones as he walks on stage, with the crowd cheering once more as he begins to sing his part of the song.
As the two continue singing, the smiles on their faces and their undeniable connection makes it hard to believe that they aren't a couple any more.
The song suddenly slows in the middle, and the camera pans to the background, where pictures of Jones and Wynette hang above the band. The two sing softly to one another, staring fondly into each other's eyes.
After a while the song picks up the tempo again, and Jones and Wynette conclude the song with an amazing finish. The two of them embrace several times after the performance, showing the crowd that there is nothing but affection between the two former flames.
Jones and Wynette's duets are always unforgettable, and this one is no exception.
