For the past 57 years, Kenny Rogers has been one of the most prominent names in country music. But as of September 25, 2015, Rogers has announced his decision to retire.
Throughout his career Rogers has released many amazing songs, performed outstanding shows, and brought smiles to all of our faces. He’s had many singles on the US Billboard Country charts like “Don’t Fall In Love With A Dreamer“, “Lady“, and “Islands In The Stream” with Dolly Parton, along with many magical Christmas albums!
But unfortunately, the time has come for Rogers to step away from country music and enjoy time with his family. On September 25, 2015, Rogers announced on his Facebook that he would start his “Farewell Tour” which would lead to his retirement and final farewell.
But you’ll never guess what prompted this decision.
On his Facebook announcement Rogers said, “I’ve had an incredible career, more than I ever dreamed. And thanks to you guys who have supported me all these years, I wanted you to hear it from me.“
As hard as it is to leave, I will tell you this. Younger and earlier in my career and in my book I wrote, there’s a fine line between being selfish and being driven, and I think I crossed that line a lot when I was younger, and I didn’t get a chance to spend a lot of time with my older boys and I regret that now. And I’ve decided that my goal now is to stay home and help Wanda raise Justin and Jordan and be just as much of an influence on them as my mother and father were on me, because that’s what parents are for.
Rogers’ announcement was so powerful, and although we will miss him, we’re so happy he is taking time to be with his young boys.
In a closing statement, Rogers said to his fans, “I wanted you to hear it from me. I love all of you, I love the way you’ve treated me you’ve always been respectful and I will miss you dearly. But I must go be with my boys, goodbye.“
We’re going to miss you, Kenny Rogers. Thank you for the memories!
