Anyone who listens to Shannon and Ashley Campbell sing can tell that they definitely inherited their father’s talent.
Shannon and Ashley are the son and daughter of legendary country music artist Glen Campbell. Glen has sold a total of over 45 million albums throughout his career and has had nine number one hits.
But what Campbell has become known for in the news more recently is not his music, but his health struggles.
In June 2011, Glen announced that six months earlier a doctor had diagnosed him as having the early onset of Alzheimer’s Disease. After he announced his disease to the public, Glen went on a final Goodbye Tour that ended in November 2012.
Since then his condition has worsened, with his wife Kim revealing in September 2015 that he is in the next-to-last stage of the disease.
Prior to his diagnosis, Glen brought Shannon and Ashley on tour with him as part of his band. Now that their father can’t perform any more, Shannon and Ashley continue to keep his legacy alive by covering some of his greatest hits.
On November 2, 2014, Shannon and Ashley delivered a performance of Glen’s award-winning song “Gentle On My Mind” at the Los Angles Walk to End Alzheimer’s.
“Gentle On My Mind” was originally released by Glen in 1987, and went on to win four Grammy awards, including the Best Male Country & Western Vocal Performance and Best Country & Western Recording awards.
Shannon and Ashley keep true to their father’s classic country style with their cover of “Gentle On My Mind,” with Shannon playing an acoustic guitar and Ashley playing a banjo. The crowd watches them in admiration, many people holding up their cameras to film the siblings’ performance.
We’re sure that Glen is not only proud of Shannon and Ashley’s talent, but everything they have done to raise awareness for Alzheimer’s Disease.
