The CMA Awards are coming up and there will be countless country music stars in attendance. One notable singer you won’t see there? Toby Keith.

He vowed years ago he would never attend again, and hasn’t in ten years. “I just, years ago, decided that it wasn’t my bag,” he says.

The singer, who has never won a CMA award, blames his empty handedness on politics.

“I think in three years I had 24 nominations. I was 0 for 24 and I went, ‘I can’t beat the politics of this deal,’” he explains. “I was a No.1 ticket seller, a No. 1 album seller and I spent 51 weeks at No. 1 on Billboard in a four year span and I went 0 for 24? I was like, ‘This isn’t worth my time.’”

Toby clearly isn’t letting his lack of wins get him down. His album 35 MPH Town was released on Friday, October 9th and is destined to produce some more No. 1 hits.

With “Drunk Americans“, “35 MPH Town“, and “Rum is the Reason” previously released as singles, the album already has promise.

While we don’t blame Toby for not wanting to go, but we still miss seeing him there and performing at the CMAs!
