Although Toby Keith just released a new single, the song isn't new to him.
“That was written years ago," Keith said in an interview with The Boot. “I kept saying I wasn’t putting it on an album until it had a shot at being a single.”
Well Keith finally released the song, called "Beautiful Stranger," as the latest single off of his album 35 MPH Town.
The song is different from anything we've heard from Keith in a while, with a tenderness to it like one of his earliest singles "You Shouldn't Kiss Me Like This."
"Beautiful Stranger" is lyrically stunning, speaking of lost love that is later rekindled. But it's Keith's impressive vocal range that brings a true level of beauty to the song.
“The vocal shows some range people probably don’t hear out of me a lot,” Keith said.
As he progresses through the song Keith takes on notes higher than anyone ever imagined he was capable of reaching. But Keith has absolutely no problem hitting the high notes.
The song also relies a lot on instrumentals, featuring nearly a minute's worth of nothing but instrumentals at the beginning of the song. This really makes the song stand out from other singles on the radio, since a lot of modern music doesn't feature so much "empty" time with no one singing.
"Beautiful Stranger" is far from what we're used to hearing from Keith, but we have to admit, we really like this side of him.
What do you think of Keith's newest single?
