On Thursday, Oct. 22, the 23rd annual Inspirational Country Music Awards was held. The ICM awards country music artists that promote Christian country throughout their careers.
The work of many inspirational country artists were awarded, but one very deserving win was that of power-couple Joey + Rory.
The duo won the award for Mainstream Country Duo/Group of the Year, and we couldn't imagine any two more deserving.
The win is very bittersweet for the duo, and just a day after the ICM Awards, Joey + Rory announced that they would be stopping all cancer treatments via Rory's blog, This Life I Live.
The doctors told the couple that the cancer had returned, and there was nothing more they could do, except buy time. Rory blogged to fans,
So we did what you do when the medicine isn’t working, and the doctors are at a loss…and when the ‘statistics” say you can do more chemo, but it will only buy you a little time... We came home. Not to die. But to live.
The two have been through more than most of us can imagine, but their faith has remained strong throughout all of life's obstacles.
All the couple asks for is prayers. Rory said,
One of the mantra’s that I always try to live by is to have incredibly “high hopes, but low expectations”. So, even though we know we’ve reached the end of what medicine can do – and while we prepare for what God has put in front of us… Joey and I will continue to pray for a miracle. We ask for your prayers too. For a miracle.
We couldn't think of a more deserving duo for this award.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Joey + Rory.
Below is the duo's emotional song about coping with the passing of a loved one, "When I'm Gone".
