Blake Shelton’s appearance on Late Night With Seth Myers was one for the books.
Myers got right down to the juicy stuff when he brought up the upcoming CMA Awards, where Shelton and his ex-wife Miranda Lambert will both be attending.
“This year is going to be awkward at the CMAs,” said Shelton. “[Country music] is such a family. Everybody there is friends, you know? There’s gotta be a joke about me and Miranda. Brad Paisley is not doing his job if he doesn’t look down there and go, ‘Haha!’ I mean, he’s gotta do it.

Shelton spoke with Paisley, who will share hosting duties with Carrie Underwood, and said, “You have to address the elephant in the room. Okay, dude, I will go sit there and let you kick me in the face a few times. I know it’s coming, you know.”

Shelton and Lambert have attended the show together since 2007 and even accepted joint awards at times. This will be their first solo red carpet event in eight years.
He also joked about his soberness during these ceremonies, and admitted he remembers the beginning of the award shows, but normally not the end or the after parties.
He seems to be well prepared for the November 4th awards show. It will air Live on ABC at 8pm (7PM Central time).
