Rory Feek/This Life I Live
Just hours after Joey and Rory Feek issued a statement to PEOPLE thanking fans for their prayers and support, Rory took to Facebook to reflect on the birth of the couple’s daughter, Indiana Boon Feek.
“Our little Indiana is 21 months old today. We’re going to sleep tonight remembering the morning we welcomed her into the world. We had no idea when we woke up that day what a gift God was about to give us,” Rory said.
The post included a link to a video that the couple made during Joey’s labor and delivery of little Indiana. It had previously been shared on Rory’s blog, This Life I Live, right after Indy’s birth. In the post, a laboring Joey is seen timing contractions and calling her midwife to help with her home delivery, something that she admits was the “single greatest thing she’s ever experienced in her life.”
As days passed following Indy’s birth, the Feeks had some concerns about their new baby and put her through genetic chromosome testing.
“It has been confirmed that Indiana has Down Syndrome,” Rory wrote. “Although that news came at first as a surprise to us, Joey and I wouldn’t have changed a thing.”
He continues, “During the pregnancy, we never did an ultrasound, or saw a doctor, nor would it have made any difference if we had. We trusted that God would give us the baby He wanted us to have… and He has. Out of all the parents in the world, He has chosen us to care for and raise this special gift. The baby is healthy and doing wonderful and Joey and I are loving each and every minute that we have with her. We can’t wait to see where this new chapter in our lives leads us and what wonderful story unfolds in the coming years.”
